Effects of an evening PROtein PrEload on blood glucose, metabolic health, and gut hormone release in Night ShIfT workers (PROPENSITy)

What is the study about ?

This study is a 6-week trial looking at how a protein supplement, consumed before the evening meal, can improve health and risk of diabetes in women who work night shifts. You will be required to visit the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) for a screening visit to determine your eligibility, and on 3 occasions for 4 hours each, as well as 4x short (15 minutes) visits over 6 weeks. You will be reimbursed for your time.

Eligibility criteria

For this study, we are looking for people who:

• are female
• are aged 25-65 years
• are overweight or obese (BMI 25-35 kg/m2)
• work night shifts, either in a rotating, permanent or split shift schedule, for at least 6 months.

If you meet these criteria, you may be eligible to take part.

Some existing medical conditions or medications that you take may mean that you will not be able to take part in the study. If this is the case, we will let you know.

If you are potentially eligible to take part, you will be invited to attend a screening visit in our clinic at SAHMRI. Results of tests performed at the screening visit may mean you are not eligible to take part.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, and decide that you would like to take part, you will be invited to take part in the rest of the study.
